The Himachal Pradesh Cabinet has approved a total of Rs. 56 crores to enhance healthcare facilities at Tanda Medical College and AIMSS Chamiyana, Shimla, with state-of-the-art medical equipment. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced the decision during a State Cabinet meeting held in Dharamshala as part of his winter visit to Kangra district.

The budget includes Rs. 28 crores for the installation of robotic surgery systems at Tanda Medical College, modeled on the advanced facilities available at AIIMS Delhi. This initiative is a significant step in improving the healthcare infrastructure in Kangra district and will benefit thousands of patients from both Kangra and neighboring regions.

The introduction of robotic surgery at Tanda Medical College and AIMSS Chamiyana will make available cutting-edge surgical services across a variety of specialties, including urology, general surgery, gynecology, cardiothoracic surgery, and gastro surgery. These advancements will raise the standard of medical care for people in Kangra, Shimla, and surrounding districts.

Robotic surgery offers a range of benefits such as greater precision, reduced risk of infection, and faster recovery times, as it involves minimally invasive techniques. Smaller incisions reduce pain for patients and allow for quicker healing, often resulting in shorter hospital stays. Surgeons will also benefit from enhanced capabilities, enabling them to perform complex procedures with more accuracy and safety.

Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted that this move underscores the state government's ongoing commitment to improving healthcare services and ensuring that the people of Himachal Pradesh have access to the most advanced medical technologies. With these improvements, Tanda Medical College and AIMSS Chamiyana are set to become leading institutions for specialized healthcare in the region.

The Chief Minister also noted that each year, approximately 9.5 lakh residents from Himachal Pradesh are compelled to seek medical treatment outside the state, causing a loss of Rs. 1,350 crores to the state’s economy. This is due to the inadequate healthcare facilities within the state's public hospitals. Sukhu assured that the current government is prioritizing the enhancement of healthcare infrastructure to address this critical issue, aiming to save time and money for thousands of patients while improving access to quality healthcare within the state.
