A doctor from Warangal, Dr. Sumanth Reddy, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday morning, eight days after his wife was brutally attacked in a planned attack by her lover and their accomplices.

Planned attack on Bitupally Road

The horrific incident took place on February 20 on Bhattupalli Road, Warangal, Telangana. According to the authorities, Dr. Sumanth Reddy, on his way home from his Kazeepet clinic, was the target of a coordinated attack. As they neared the outskirts of Bhattupalli, two motorcycle-borne assailants intercepted their vehicle and attacked them violently.

According to the report, the assailants deliberately rammed the doctor's car from behind, forcing him to stop. When he got out to inspect the damage, they hit him several times over the head with a hammer before fleeing, believing him to be dead.

Passers-by found Warangal's doctor (Dr. Sumanth Reddy), who was seriously injured, and rushed him to MGM Hospital. Later, he was shifted to Hyderabad for advanced treatment. However, due to his critical condition, he was brought back to Warangal, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, officials confirmed.

In India, incidents where wives conspire with their lovers to murder their husbands have been documented, though comprehensive national statistics are limited. A 2022 report highlighted 271 cases where men were killed by their wives; notably, 218 of these cases involved extramarital affairs where women conspired with their paramours.

Following a complaint by the doctor's father, the police launched an investigation and identified the culprits through CCTV footage. On Thursday, authorities arrested the doctor's wife, her lover, and a colleague after they tried to sell gold stolen from the victim's home.

The Motive Behind Attack!

The Warangal doctor, a resident of Vasavi Colony, got married in 2016 and later moved to Sangareddy in 2018. While he worked as a contract medical officer, his wife Flora, a teacher, allegedly started an affair with a gym trainer, Samuel. When Sumanth came to know about the affair, he returned to Warangal in 2019, but the illicit relationship continued.

According to reports, Flora and her lover, Samuel, conspired to kill the doctor. He allegedly transferred ₹1 lakh to Samuel, who paid ₹50,000 to Rajkumar, an AR constable in Cyberabad, to carry out the murder. On February 20, they trapped the doctor while he was returning home from the hospital in Kazipet.

The police are continuing their investigation into the matter.
