A woman in Gravesend, Kent, was prescribed antipsychotic medication after reporting unexplained sounds and suspected intrusion in her home. Authorities later confirmed that a man had been secretly living in her loft, verifying her claims.
The 31-year-old woman, identified in reports as Chloe, lived in a top-floor flat with her child. She reported hearing repeated noises, including footsteps and movements, and stated that her loft hatch was opening on its own.
Although she first dismissed it as unusual, her discomfort soon intensified.
Chloe said she called a friend who lived in the flat below, who reassured her that no one was there. However, later that night, when she was unable to sleep, she reported hearing footsteps coming from the loft above.
She said she contacted several people, but they attempted to calm her and suggested that the sounds were in her head, with some dismissing her concerns as irrational. Later that evening, she remembered feeling that someone was present and watching her.
She told the LadBible,
No one would believe me. But I don't blame the people in my life then.

Chloe stated that she was already under the care of mental health services at the time and was managing conditions including anxiety and PTSD.
LadBible also noted that her concerns were taken seriously enough by healthcare providers that she was prescribed antipsychotic medication after describing hearing persistent voices and unexplained sounds in her home.
In her account shared on TikTok, Chloe said she was around 20 years old at the time of the incident and was already known to mental health services, describing herself as struggling with unresolved trauma and poor sleep during that period.
She also said she had a condition in which she perceived sounds resembling different environments, such as swimming pools or pubs.
I’m a different person now, but back then I was a little bit wild.

Her concerns were initially believed to be related to hallucinations. She sought medical help and was prescribed antipsychotic medication based on her reported symptoms.
She further stated that she was prescribed Quetiapine, which she described as making her feel extremely sedated and unresponsive during the period she was taking it.
Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic commonly used to treat conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and severe mood disturbances, and is known to cause sedation, especially during initial use or dose adjustments.
Antipsychotic-induced sedation can impair alertness and daily functioning, potentially affecting a patient’s ability to respond to real environmental threats, as seen in this case.
Clinically, symptoms such as hearing voices are often associated with psychiatric conditions, but experts note that environmental factors must also be considered before confirming a diagnosis, particularly in patients with pre-existing mental health conditions.
This scenario may also reflect “anchoring bias” where clinicians rely heavily on a patient’s prior psychiatric history when interpreting new symptoms, potentially overlooking alternative explanations.
In such cases, simple environmental checks, including inspection of living spaces, entry points, and shared access areas, can be crucial before confirming a psychiatric diagnosis.
The events took place in Gravesend, a town in Kent, United Kingdom. The case occurred several years ago but has resurfaced in March 2026 following renewed media attention.
The incident has been widely discussed online after Chloe shared her experience on the mobile app TikTok, where it gained significant attention and sparked conversations about misdiagnosis and home safety.
After continuing to experience disturbances, the woman reported seeing a man emerging from the loft area. She contacted the police, who carried out a search of the property.
He was staring at me and I ran downstairs to my friend screaming for help. I was shouting 'He’s in my flat, he’s coming.'

In her TikTok narration, she said the situation had been ongoing for nearly two months before she contacted the police, during which time her concerns were repeatedly dismissed by people around her.
Officers found a man living in the loft space along with personal belongings, indicating that he had been staying there for some time. Reports stated that the individual was connected to another resident in the building and may have accessed the loft through shared areas.
She also alleged that the man had been assisted by a neighbour, who she claimed allowed him access to the loft and dismissed her concerns when she raised suspicions.
According to LadBible, the case is an example of a phenomenon known as “phrogging,” where individuals secretly live in another person’s home without their knowledge.
The man was removed from the property. No injuries were reported during the incident.
A spokesperson for Moat Housing said in a statement to LBC,
Thanks to reports from customers living in the building, we were able to work with the Police to investigate the incident, leading to an arrest. We secured the loft space shortly afterwards, and have had no further reports of phrogging.

Following the discovery, authorities secured the premises. No further incidents have been reported in connection with the case.
Police confirmed that the suspect had been arrested following the discovery, and housing authorities took additional steps to secure access to the loft area to prevent similar incidents.
