Gaya, January 17, 2026: What initially appeared to be a serious case of organized extortion targeting a senior healthcare professional in Gaya has turned out to be a fabricated complaint filed by the doctor himself.

Dr. Satendra Kumar, head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College Hospital (ANMMCH), was arrested on Friday, January 16, 2026, for allegedly filing a false FIR against his estranged wife, Vibha Kumari, a non-practicing medical professional. He had accused unidentified individuals of demanding extortion money and issuing death threats against his wife.

The Original Complaint Filed by the Doctor That Turned Out to Be False

The case began when Dr. Kumar reported receiving threatening phone calls on December 27 and 31, 2025. He claimed that unknown callers demanded ₹1 crore and threatened to kill his wife if the money was not paid. Based on his complaint, an FIR was registered at the Magadh Medical Police Station.

Initial investigations suggested the involvement of an organized criminal gang, as the first call reportedly originated from Asansol in West Bengal, while the subsequent call was traced to Maharashtra.

What Raised Investigators' Suspicions

However, a detailed police investigation revealed a completely different narrative. According to investigators, Dr. Kumar had established Diamond Nursing Home near the residence of the Senior Superintendent of Police in Gaya, in partnership with a man named Naushad.

The facility was rented at ₹3 lakh per month, and most of the investments including medical equipment, staff salaries, and operational expenses were allegedly made by Naushad and his Mumbai-based brother.

Police officials stated that the nursing home initially generated profits, but Dr. Kumar allegedly stopped visiting the facility and failed to pay his share of expenses for nearly a year. As unpaid rent and other costs accumulated, Naushad repeatedly contacted Dr. Kumar to settle the pending dues. Instead of clearing his liabilities, the doctor allegedly portrayed these legitimate business-related calls as extortion threats and filed an FIR.

Inconsistencies Raise Red Flags in the FIR

Several inconsistencies in the complaint raised suspicion during the investigation. The FIR failed to mention crucial details such as the time, place, and mode of payment for the alleged extortion. Additionally, although the threatening calls were received on Vibha Kumari’s phone, the complaint was filed by her husband.

A major breakthrough occurred when Vibha Kumari’s statement did not support the claims made by Dr. Kumar in the FIR. She also informed investigators that she suspected her husband of being involved in an extramarital relationship with a paramedical staff member at ANMMCH. She claimed to possess messages allegedly exchanged between Dr. Kumar and the woman.

Vibha Kumari further mentioned an ongoing property dispute involving her husband and residents of the Gewalbigha locality, which is also being examined as part of the investigation.

Four Arrested, Including Doctor and Wife

Following the probe, police arrested four individuals, including Dr. Kumar and his wife. A video submitted as evidence was also deemed suspicious, as it was recorded by Vibha Kumari herself.

City SP Kota Kiran stated that the police were not in a position to disclose full details at this stage, adding that further information would be shared at an appropriate time.
