Nagaland Doctor Racially Harassed, Stalked Near AIIMS Gorakhpur; Two Arrested, FIR Registered

Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh: A third-year woman resident doctor from Nagaland posted at AIIMS Gorakhpur was allegedly racially harassed, stalked and molested by three men near the institute campus on Sunday evening. Police have registered an FIR and arrested two accused, while a third suspect remains absconding.

The incident occurred around 8 pm when the 27-year-old doctor was returning to the AIIMS Gorakhpur campus from Orion Mall in the Mohaddipur area. According to her complaint, three men on a motorcycle began following her and continued to stalk her for nearly 1.5 kilometers towards Gate No. 2 of the AIIMS campus near the Army area.

Accused Allegedly Passed Racial Slurs, Made Obscene Gestures

In her statement to police, the doctor said the men hurled racial remarks targeting her Northeastern identity and made obscene comments. She alleged that one of the accused removed his shirt in an attempt to intimidate her, while another touched her inappropriately.

The harassment continued until she raised an alarm, after which the men fled the spot.

Police registered a case at the AIIMS police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita dealing with molestation, stalking and outraging the modesty of a woman.

Two Accused Arrested, Third Under Search

Following the complaint, police examined CCTV footage from the mall and surrounding areas to identify the motorcycle used in the incident. Based on technical evidence and local inputs, police arrested two accused identified as Suraj Gupta, 22, and Amrit Vishwakarma, 21.

Officials confirmed that the motorcycle involved in the incident has been seized. Police teams are conducting raids to arrest the third accused who is currently absconding.

Medical Associations Condemn Incident

The National Federation of Resident Doctors of AIIMS and INIs condemned the incident and described it as a serious case of racial and sexual harassment. The federation expressed concern over the safety of doctors, especially those from Northeastern states working outside their home region.

Police said further investigation is underway and assured strict action against all those involved.
