Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh: A deeply distressing incident at Parasia Civil Hospital in Chhindwara district has triggered shock, grief, and outrage after the body of a newborn baby girl was found lodged inside a toilet commode. Police suspect that the infant was deliberately flushed into the toilet shortly after birth, possibly by her own family.
Hospital authorities discovered the body on Monday after a female sanitation worker noticed that the toilet water was not draining properly. When she looked closer, she saw part of a newborn’s body trapped inside the commode and immediately alerted hospital officials.
Police and hospital staff rushed to the spot and began efforts to retrieve the baby. The task took nearly eight hours as workers had to dismantle the toilet structure carefully to remove the infant’s body. By the time the body was recovered, the baby was declared dead.
Doctors confirmed that the infant was a full term newborn girl. The body was sent for post mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and whether the child was alive when she was flushed into the toilet.
Investigators believe the baby may have been abandoned immediately after birth inside the hospital premises. Police suspect that the family did not want a girl child and tried to get rid of the newborn to avoid responsibility.
Hospital records are being scrutinised to identify any woman who recently delivered a baby and left without registering the birth. CCTV footage from hospital corridors, entrances, and washroom areas is also being examined to trace the movements of suspects.
Officials said no woman has so far come forward claiming the child, strengthening suspicions of deliberate concealment.
The police have registered a case and launched a full scale investigation. Officers are questioning hospital staff, attendants, and visitors who were present during the time window when the incident may have occurred.
Authorities stated that once the post mortem report is available, it will clarify whether the infant died due to suffocation, injury, or other causes. Based on the findings, charges related to murder, concealment of birth, and destruction of evidence may be added.
A similar issue from last year resurfaced, when on November 29 in Karnataka’s Ramanagara district. A hospital worker noticed a blocked toilet in a government hospital washroom and alerted staff. Cleaners and plumbers later found the body of a newborn lodged inside the commode. Police said the baby appeared one to two days old and no missing newborn had been reported from the hospital.
The body was sent for post-mortem to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
