A doctor in Nasik, Maharashtra brutally attacked inside a hospital over a monetary dispute, this terrifying incident was captured on CCTV camera. The doctor was admitted to the local hospital in a critical condition.

The victim is identified as Dr. Kailash Rathi a pulmonologist and critical care specialist. A police official said that Dr. Kailas Rathi (48), director of a hospital in the Panchvati area, was attacked on Friday night with a sickle. The CCTV footage shows that the assailant attacked the doctor with a sickle nearly 18 times.

The Panchavati Police on Saturday evening arrested the accused Rajendra More, and secured seven days of custody after producing him in a city court on Sunday. Based on the victim’s wife's complaint a case has been registered under section 307 (attempt to murder), section 34 (common intention), and other sections of the Indian Arms Act against the accused and his wife, who is a former employee of the doctor.

The police official said that the husband of one of the victim’s former employees had been arrested for the attack. The woman was accused of misappropriating Rs. 6 lakh when she worked in his hospital. She was dismissed and reinstated some years later. She again took Rs.12 lakh from him but refused to pay it back.

Officials said that the Indian Medical Association revoked its protest March on Saturday after one arrest was made in the case.

According to the CCTV footage, the doctor was talking on his phone and he seemed clueless about the man who was standing next to him. Then the man started attacking the doctor's face and neck with a sickle and continued attacking him even after the doctor stopped moving. The doctor suffered multiple injuries on his neck, head, and other parts of the body. He was admitted to the local hospital, and the doctors said that he was in ICU in critical condition.

Sandeep Karnik, Commissioner of Police said that the attack was a fallout of some personal disputes. Rajendra’s wife used to work in Dr. Rathi’s clinic in the past. The police will interrogate Rajendra to confirm the motive of the attack.

A few years ago, the accused ‘s wife stopped working at Dr. Rathi’s clinic. The accused and his wife took some money from Dr. Rathi over a property deal. A senior police officer apprised that Dr. Rathi was after the accused to return the money. The accused came to Dr. Rathi’s clinic on Friday around 9:30 pm and followed the doctor to his cabin. The doctor was talking on his cell phone. Rajendra More took out the machete and lacerated Dr. Rathi at least 16-17 times and escaped from the cabin. The staffer in the hospital raised an alarm and other employees ran toward the cabin and notified the police. Thereon Dr. Rathi was taken to a hospital in Panchavati.

Vishal Gunjal, Nasik Unit President of IMA said that doctors kept their OPDs closed till noon on Saturday in protest against the incident, and also said that the attack was not over any hospital patient issue, the plan for a day-long protest was called off. They appeal to the police to ensure that such incidents do not occur.
