Healthcare is getting a serious upgrade. TJ Parker and Elliot Cohen. The duo behind PillPack has teamed up with former Amazon Health exec Ashwin Muralidharan to launch General Medicine, a digital platform that aims to be the go-to destination for all your non-emergency medical needs. After selling PillPack to Amazon for nearly $1 billion in 2022, the founders spent several years with the tech giant to advance their broader vision: making healthcare as accessible as online shopping.
Now, that vision is a reality.
$ 32 M-Backed Health Startup Goes Live
Officially launching today, General Medicine launched with $32 million in funding led by Matrix Partners, where Parker serves as a general partner. The leadership team includes Muralidharan as CEO and Cohen as executive chair, with additional investment from Box Group, Founders Collective, VXI Capital, and JSL Health Capital.
The platform combines telehealth, medical navigation, and an online healthcare marketplace, all in one place. Think of it like Amazon, but for your medical needs.
How it works: Healthcare, Simplified
New users get started by uploading insurance details and answering a quick health survey. From there, they can:
Search for specific services like X-rays or lab tests.
Compare prices (cash vs. insurance)
Book appointments directly online.
Lab work results are automatically uploaded to your account, and booking logistics, either automated or managed by staff, are handled behind the scenes for a seamless experience.
In-Network Telehealth and Personal Care Plans
For those who aren’t sure what care they need, General Medicine offers on-demand video consultations with in-house doctors who accept major insurers, including United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, and Medicare. These providers can provide diagnoses, write care plans, and refer patients to local specialists if needed.
Built for convenience and transparency
General Medicine’s biggest promise? Clarity and convenience in a system known for complexity. Whether patients prefer to pay with insurance or out-of-pocket, they’ll see up-front pricing and available options, no surprises, no guesswork.
CEO Muralidharan explained that the team worked hard to build integrations with external providers, often manually stitching together services to emulate automation and provide a great user experience.
We think that all adds up to an experience that ultimately people will keep coming back to.

Future-ready: AI integration and growth plans
The company is also exploring partnerships with AI-powered tools like chatbots to help consumers find care based on the health information they’re looking for.
“Whether we truly integrate with them, I don’t know,” Parker said, “but we would have the capacity to do that.”
“If you extrapolate to what Amazon Clinic could have been or may still become in the future, there are a lot of similarities,” Parker said. But as of now, he added, “Ours is a far more fulsome experience.”
Standing out in a crowded marketplace
While companies like Amazon Clinic and One Medical offer digital health services, General Medicine stands out by:
Accepting insurance
Booking appointments with local providers
Offering a broader, more integrated experience
Cohen explained it best: “What sucks today about healthcare is that you’re lost in the middle trying to figure out how to piece all these things together,” he said.
With General Medicine, they just might.
