Medical education in India, especially MBBS, comes with high fees that many students from low-income families simply can’t afford. Scholarships don’t remove the stress completely, but they do offer some much-needed support to keep going in the medical journey.

Here’s a look at four key scholarships for NEET-UG qualifiers and MBBS students.

1. ONGC Scholarship for Meritorious Students

  • What it is: A scholarship by the ONGC Foundation for students pursuing MBBS, Engineering, MBA, Geology, or Geophysics.

  • Eligibility:

    -Must belong to SC, ST, OBC, or General EWS category

    -Must have secured a minimum of 60% marks in Class 12

    -Enrolled in a full-time regular course

    -Annual family income must be under ₹4.5 lakh

  • Amount: ₹48,000 per year

  • Special Notes:

    -Half of the total scholarships are reserved for female students

    -Over 800 students benefited in 2020–21

2. Vidyavridhi Medical Scholarship (Yashoda Foundation)

  • What it is: A 4-year scholarship program by the Yashoda Hospital Group

  • Coverage: Tuition fees from ₹10,000 to ₹50,000 per year

  • Eligibility:

    -10 students selected per academic batch (40 total in launch year)

    -Must apply for extension each year

    -Selection based on interview

    -Offered specifically for students pursuing MBBS

  • Application Process:

    -Fill in the student registration form

    -Submit documents like 10th/12th marksheets, NEET scores, BPL card, and income proof

  • Important: Scholarship is directly paid to the college in the student’s name

3. All India Pre-Medical Scholarship Test (AIPMST Secondary)

  • What it is: A scholarship entrance exam for students willing to pursue MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS, or BUMS

  • Eligibility:

    -Must have completed 10+2 with PCB subjects

  • Scholarship Structure (Based on Score):

    -Section A: 1000 students scoring ≥90% – 2 years tuition fee waiver

    -Section B: 5000 students scoring 80–90% – 1 year tuition fee waiver

    -Section C: 10,000 students scoring 70–80% – free standard laptop

    -Section D: 1000 students scoring below 70% also get a standard laptop

  • Additional Info:

    -Students not eligible for these courses can explore alternate health science scholarships via AIPMST Primary

4. Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Protsahan Yojana (PM-USP)

  • What it is: A central government scholarship for students in higher education, including professional courses like MBBS

  • Eligibility:

    -Based on Class 12 merit

    -Annual family income must be ≤ ₹4.5 lakh

    -Only for regular (not distance or diploma) courses

  • Reservation: 15% SC, 7.5% ST, 27% OBC, 5% for persons with disabilities

  • Scholarship Amount:

    -₹12,000/year for UG (first 3 years)

    -₹20,000/year for PG or for 4th–5th year of integrated or professional courses

  • How It Works:

    -Apply via National Scholarship Portal

    -Credentials verified via DigiLocker

    -The amount is directly transferred to the student’s bank account
