The Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) in Gujarat has released an update announcing the selection of 11,892 students for engineering and pharmacy diploma-to-degree programs. Out of these, 11,470 students have been selected for degree engineering courses and 216 for degree pharmacy courses. An additional 206 students from other states have also secured seats in these programs.
The process includes mock-choice filling from June 19 to June 22, with results expected on June 25. For degree engineering, there are 46,870 seats available across 119 government, grant-in-aid, and private colleges. Similarly, degree pharmacy programs offer 2,636 seats in 99 colleges. The final merit list will be revealed on June 25, followed by the first round of choice filling from June 25 to June 28.
In Karnataka, private colleges are set to increase fees by 10% for engineering and architecture courses in the upcoming academic year. This decision follows a request by KUPECA for a 15% hike, citing recommendations from the 7th Pay Commission. Ministers Sudhakar and Patil agreed on the 10% increase, with details to be finalized soon. Last year, fees saw a 7% hike, but discussions regarding fee adjustments for government and medical colleges are still ongoing, with no agreement reached yet on nursing course fee hikes.
In other educational news from Gujarat, a case has emerged where a homeopathy doctor from Mehsana paid Rs 16 lakh for an MBBS degree from a university in Uttar Pradesh. This transaction was facilitated through the All India Alternative Medical Council and Dr. Prem Kumar Rajput, allowing the individual to obtain the degree without attending classes or taking exams. The swift acquisition of the MBBS degree within a month raises concerns about the integrity of educational standards and accreditation processes.
Additionally, in Karnataka, 17 degree colleges affiliated with Mangalore University have not applied for affiliation for the upcoming academic year due to low student admissions. This revelation came during an academic council meeting, highlighting challenges faced by certain institutions in maintaining enrollment levels and operational viability.
