Gurgaon, September 29, 2025 — Zomato has launched a new feature called Healthy Mode on its food delivery platform that assigns a “Healthy Score” to menu items, aiming to assist users in making more nutritious choices.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), CEO Deepinder Goyal acknowledged a longstanding concern: while Zomato made ordering food easier, it did not do enough to help people eat better. He expressed that the company had offered “salads or smoothie bowls,” but it had not made it simple for users to find truly nourishing meals. Goyal stated, “I’ve carried the guilt that Zomato made it easy to eat whatever you craved, but not easy to eat what your body needed. Healthy Mode is our first real step in putting that right.”
Under Healthy Mode, each dish receives a Healthy Score ranging from Low to Super. The score considers factors such as:
Protein
Complex carbohydrates
Fibre
Micronutrients
Zomato emphasizes that it evaluates these inputs rather than focusing only on calories.
The scoring is generated using artificial intelligence (AI) combined with restaurant menu data. Zomato plans to display these scores to users who opt into Healthy Mode, enabling filtering and comparison of dishes based on the scores.
Goyal highlighted that the threshold for inclusion is set high enough so that even professional athletes could rely on Healthy Mode for nutritious options.
The feature is currently live in Gurgaon (Gurugram) and will be extended to other cities in India in phases. Zomato has invited user feedback to refine the scoring system and address edge cases.
Goyal said the launch is a step toward fulfilling Zomato’s mission of “better food for more people,” where “better” encompasses not just availability but nutritional quality.
The new feature emerges in a context of increasing concern over dietary health, rising rates of noncommunicable diseases (such as obesity, diabetes, and hypertension) linked to poor diet, and public demand for transparency in food choices. By providing a quantifiable score based on nutritional metrics, Healthy Mode may encourage restaurants to offer healthier items and help consumers make more informed decisions.
However, the effectiveness of Healthy Mode will depend on the accuracy of the AI algorithms, quality of restaurant data, and user adoption over time.
