A woman posing as a doctor allegedly drugged a patient and stole gold jewelry weighing around 10 tolas at Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad on March 12, 2026, triggering a police investigation into the brazen impersonation and theft inside the hospital premises.

The victim, Sudha Rani, 37, had been admitted to the hospital and was preparing to be discharged when the suspect entered the ward disguised as a medical professional. Police said the woman wore a doctor’s coat and carried a stethoscope, which helped her appear credible to patients and attendants.

Imposter Asked Family to Leave Room Before Injection

According to police, the suspect approached Sudha Rani’s hospital room and introduced herself as a doctor. She told the patient’s relatives that she needed to administer an injection before the discharge process could be completed.

Believing she was part of the hospital staff, the relatives stepped out of the room as instructed.

Police said the woman then administered an injection to Sudha Rani. Soon after receiving the injection, the patient became drowsy and lost consciousness.

Taking advantage of the situation, the impersonator allegedly removed the patient’s jewelry and fled from the ward.

Gold Jewelry Worth 10 Tolas Reportedly Stolen

When the family members returned to the room, they found Sudha Rani unconscious and realized that her gold ornaments were missing.

The stolen jewelry reportedly included a gold chain and other ornaments weighing about 10 tolas.

The patient’s husband later approached the police and lodged a complaint about the theft.

Authorities from Monda Market Police Station have registered a case and launched an investigation.

CCTV Footage Under Examination

Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the hospital premises to identify the woman and track her movements inside the building.

Investigators believe the suspect managed to move through the hospital without raising suspicion because she was dressed like a doctor.

Officials said the footage shows the woman entering and leaving the ward, which could help police trace her identity.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to identify and locate the woman.

Hospital authorities reportedly stated that the suspect was not an employee of the hospital.
