Kanpur: A 6-year-old girl was kidnapped and brutally assaulted by a local man in the Ghatampur area of Kanpur Nagar District. The horrific incident occurred on Tuesday evening, and the victim is currently fighting for her life in the hospital.
Alleged Sequence of Events
According to reports, the minor had gone to a nearby shop around 5:30 PM. That’s when a young man from the same neighborhood allegedly approached her and offered chocolates to lure her. He then took her behind a nearby shrine, where the disturbing incident reportedly took place.
On reaching the isolated place, he attempted to rape her. When the frightened girl screamed for help, the accused stuffed leaves into her mouth to silence her. As she continued to struggle, he struck her head multiple times with a brick, resulting in severe injuries.
Hearing the girl’s screams and the commotion, locals and her family members rushed to the spot. By the time they got there, the accused had fled the scene. The minor was found unconscious and covered in blood.
My daughter went to a nearby shop at around 5.30 pm. When she didn’t return after 10 to 15 minutes, her mother went in search for her. When she asked the shopkeeper, she was informed that our daughter didn’t go there. My daughter didn’t even reach the shop… A man from our locality picked her up and took her behind the market area, behind the bushes.Victim's father
She was immediately taken to the community health center for first aid, but her case was later referred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Kanpur. Officials said a green corridor—a traffic-free route—was created to ensure her quick and safe transfer.
Medical Condition
The child remains in critical condition at the hospital. She suffered severe head injuries, and her scalp has been torn into four sections, exposing her skull. There’s also a deep wound above her eyebrow.
A team of specialists, including Dr. Manish Singh, Head of Neurosurgery, and senior gynecology doctors, are actively monitoring her case. While her CT scans and abdominal ultrasounds have come back normal, she has not regained consciousness yet due to the extent of facial and head trauma.
Dr. Sanjay Kala, the principal of Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College, is personally overseeing her treatment.
Police Action and Accused’s Identity
Following the incident, the victim’s father filed a formal complaint. A forensic team examined the scene, and additional police personnel were deployed in the area. Shailendra Singh, the town outpost in-charge, said the accused is reportedly mentally unstable.
The father identified him as a neighbor and claimed there was no serious conflict between the families, only occasional disagreements. He also believes the accused may have been influenced by his parents.
A Larger Concern
Cases of violence against minors continue to surface almost every day across the country. While legal safeguards like the POCSO Act exist, incidents like this show that the threat to children’s safety remains a pressing issue.
What Lies Ahead
The investigation is still underway, and the accused has yet to be found. The young girl’s father has expressed deep grief and uncertainty about his daughter’s survival. The family now holds onto hope for her recovery and for justice to be served.
