Medical writing was something I was always interested in but had little knowledge about. I came across MedBound Times’ internship training program on LinkedIn, and when I explored further, I realized that it was just the right course for me to start my medical writing journey. The duration was two months, for about one to two hours on the weekends. Ms. Himani Negi, the managing editor of MedBound Times, herself conducted online classes on medical journalism for a batch of 10 students. Not only was she eloquent in teaching, but she was also keen to help us make the best use of the program. Classes were not just lectures, but interactive sessions that actively promoted participation. Doubts were clarified at the end of every session, and everyone was encouraged to ask whatever queries they may have had.
The curriculum started with the basics, from understanding what medical journalism was about, the different types of articles, the subject matter of the articles, copyrights, plagiarism, and referencing, and also included the technical aspects like search engine optimization, content management systems, analytics, and the use of AI. Further, Ms. Himani Negi also conducted extra classes in English language and grammar outside of the curriculum to help those of us who needed them. Daily assignments were also given that were not only easy but also helpful.
The best part of this course is that it offers different tiers to enroll yourself in based on your interest and resources. This flexibility is rarely seen in other institutions offering similar programs. I took the most basic model, which did not include writing an article for MBT, CME access, or an author profile, as I only wanted to learn the essentials first. But others in the batch who opted for higher tiers published quality articles and began their medical writing careers.
Overall, this two-month internship program, designed to accommodate both the experienced and novices like me, is one of the best courses to enter the field of medical journalism.
